Awards and Recognition

Thank you to those who have recognized the green behind our red. We’re proud of our accomplishments in reducing our environmental footprint. As you can see, environmental awards and KI have a history.

2014 KI introduces the world’s first carbon-negative chair made with AirCarbon™–a revolutionary, paradigm-shifting thermoplastic developed by California-based Newlight Technologies–at the Greenbuild 2014 conference. Newlight’s patented manufacturing technology combines oxygen from air with concentrated methane-based carbon emissions that would otherwise become part of the air to produce AirCarbon, a thermoplastic material that can displace fossil fuel-based plastics by matching on performance and out-competing on price. KI will be the exclusive provider of AirCarbon in the contract furniture industry.
2013 KI installs the largest solar photovoltaic (PV) system in Wisconsin at its design and development center in Green Bay. The new 115 kilowatt (kW) array–comprised of 480 PV solar panels, covering approximately 22,820 square feet of rooftop space–converts sunlight into electricity, producing approximately 152,640 kilowatt hours (kWh) of clean energy annually while displacing 108 metric tons carbon dioxide emissions. The energy produced is the equivalent of sequestering carbon from 88 acres of forest or providing electricity to 13 U.S. households.
2014, 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010 The Green Masters Program is an objective, points-based recognition program that enables Wisconsin businesses of all sizes and from all sectors to understand what needs to be done to justifiably claim that they are "on the road to sustainability." The Green Masters Program helps to recognize Wisconsin’s sustainability leaders and encourage continuous improvement. The award was presented to KI for its manufacturing innovation and commitment to sustainable manufacturing processes.
2010 KI earns a Manufacturing Award of Distinction from the Green Bay Chamber of Commerce. The award was presented to KI for its manufacturing innovation and commitment to sustainable manufacturing processes.
2010 KI wins prestigious 2010 WasteWise Large Business Partner of the Year Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Office of Resource Conservation and Recovery. The award recognizes KI’s commitment to waste prevention and recycling initiatives, buy-recycled efforts, and activities to promote WasteWise.
2011, 2009, 2008, 2006 KI sets the gold standard in winning the EPA WasteWise Gold Achievement Award for Packaging Reduction.
2004, 1997 Wisconsin Business Friend of the Environment Award recognizes KI as a company that goes beyond compliance in its environmental programs. In 2004, KI accepts a second award after our engineering team found a way to make two already remarkably earth-friendly products (Genius Wall and WireWorks) even more sustainable.
2001, 1998, 1996 The Wisconsin Governor's Award for Excellence in Environmental Performance recognizes KI for striving to utilize manufacturing methods that emphasize pollution prevention practices—including waste minimization, recycling, and the use of alternative, non-hazardous materials.
1998, 1995 Prevention Environment Prosperity Award recognizes KI for a process re-engineering endeavor in which solvent-based glues are replaced with water-based glues. KI is recognized with the same award for eliminating hazardous waste streams through product substitution and recycling.
